Welcome to the Harlan Community School District!
We are excited to have you join our school district. We are composed of several wonderful communities. Harlan Schools educate students from Corley, Defiance, Earling, Harlan, Jacksonville, Panama, Portsmouth, and Westphalia. We have approximately 1,400 students PK-12 with an average of 100 students open enrolled from other school districts. We are currently in the process of renovating our high school and building a new Intermediate (grades 3-5) building. The community passed a 32 million dollar bond to help us move our facilities into amazing places for our students to learn and grow.
As a district we have dedicated teachers, staff, students, parents and administrators. We strive to be the best in the areas of academics, the arts, and athletics. Harlan is a strong partner with many local businesses and Iowa Western Community College. We offer an array of college credits for students, free of charge, to give them a head start on a two or four year college degree or to obtain a certificate for employment soon after graduation.
